GET FiT Mozambique in the News: Prequalified Companies Featured by AMER

The GET FiT Mozambique programme continues to gain attention. Following the recent publication of the prequalified companies for the Solar PV + BESS tender, the Renewable Energy Association of Mozambique (AMER) has featured the development on its platform. The coverage highlights the growing momentum of the programme and the strong interest from both local and global market players.

Shortlist of Pre-Qualified Companies for the GET FiT Mozambique PV + BESS Tender

Five companies have been pre-qualified for the final phase of the public tender for the development of decentralized solar photovoltaic projects with battery storage in Mozambique. The tender is promoted by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME), with funding from the Government of Germany, through the KfW Development Bank, under the GET FiT Mozambique program, and is implemented by the Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE).

The Call for Pre-Qualification was launched in July last year, and the shortlist was published in June 2025. The tender aims to select a minimum of two experienced Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to develop, finance, build, operate and transfer two batches of PV + BESS (photovoltaic systems with battery storage) projects in the provinces of Nampula, Zambezia, Sofala and Gaza. These projects will produce energy corresponding to the current consumption of about 80,000 Mozambican households.

Following a competitive application process, the following five companies were pre-qualified:

· Axian Energy Green Limited

· JCM Power Corporation e Source Energia Serviços SA

· Red Rocket Africa

· Voltalia S.A.

· WindForce PLC e Vidullanka PLC

According to GET FiT Mozambique Resident Program Manager, Mr. D. Benon Mutambi: “We received very strong applications, which demonstrates the dynamism and growth of the renewable energy market in the country. The process was conducted in accordance with the PPP Law and with full transparency, ensuring that the most experienced and qualified competitors advanced to the next phase.”

The program is now entering the Request for Proposals (RfP) preparation phase, in parallel with the process of obtaining provisional Land Use and Exploitation Rights (DUATs) for the project sites. The RfP is anticipated to be sent to pre-qualified companies toward the end of this year.

Ms. Mari Sofie Furu, from Multiconsult Norge AS, Director of the GET FiT Program Implementation Consultancy, said: “Our focus now is to ensure that projects are selected and that they start as soon as possible, in order to contribute to the accelerated development of renewable energy resources in the country, promoting a more sustainable and climate-friendly development path in Mozambique.”

Emmett Costel, Programme Manager for the Mini-Grid Component of GET FiT, added: “This is an important milestone in the transition from the regulatory framework to public tenders that mobilize private sector investment in renewables, further reinforcing the precedent on which the mini-grid tender rests, with the current Qualification Request (RfQ) being a testament to this.”
