In the May 2024 edition of our newsletter, we highlighted the significant strides being made by the GET FiT Mozambique program in fostering private investment in renewable energy. As discussed, the program is designed to improve the conditions for independent power producers (IPPs), with the ultimate goal of expanding energy access across Mozambique, creating jobs, and ensuring a more efficient and reliable power supply.
GET FiT Mozambique also aims to strengthen the country’s institutional capacity, laying the groundwork for a more transparent and favorable regulatory environment that encourages private sector participation in the green energy transition. The first phase focuses on solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS), with a second phase anticipated to center on small hydropower projects. Complementing these efforts, the Mini-grid Fund, supported by the Green People’s Energy for Africa initiative, will help extend energy access to rural and off-grid areas.
